Little Beachcomber

Children love to collect interesting things.
This little one is beach combing for pretty shells,
tossed upon the shores after the last storm.

Green Light

Plein air sketch painted last summer,
of  one of my favorite forest campgrounds
and hiking trails in the Oregon Cascades
near the Columbia River.
I dug it out and did a few finishing touches to it.

Frosted

The below freezing temperatures and fog have been creating
a winter wonderland of ice and frost where I live.
This oak tree in our back pasture
looks like it has sprouted frost blossoms.

River Frost

The fog along the river dusts everything with frost
when the temperature drops near freezing.
The effect is that these cattails look as if they
have been dusted with powder sugar.
This painting has been entered in Dana Marie's
Rendition Me This Challenge.
This is an interesting challenge,
where the artist renders her own version
of the challenge painting.
Not a copy of it,
but what the painting may inspire.
Try it, it is a unique and interesting challenge.

Bird Seed

Painted this for Dana Marie's Artistic Sentiments Challenge.
A sunflower seemed like a nice "sunny" change of pace
from winter's gray skies and rainy or snowy scenes.
Too many paintings, too many challenges, too little time!
Decided to use Dana Marie's pretty sunflower
and this painting  in other challenges,
(hope she doesn't mind)
so I added a few birds to the scene.

Cayenne Peppers Drying

This is the 13th painting for the 30 days challenge.
Found these pretty little guys in a seed catalogue.
Although my painting doesn't resemble the picture,
which I only used for inspiration,
I'll give them a plug anyway: GardenersPlace.com

Road at the Tail of the Rocks

Painted for Bill Guffey's Virtual Paintout challenge
on the Isle of Man. I chose this scene because of the
many interesting componants. This is a beachfront cottage,
built of thick walls, leaning chimneys, and a thatched roof,
that is literally tied down with rope and weighted down with rocks (windy?).
These elements and the brightly painted red doors and windows,
along with the red canoes made me think this needed
to be painted in a whimsical fashion.

Towhee in Winter

This little fellow visits outside my studio window.
Everyday he hops about a planter on the porch deck
looking for bugs. He is so pretty and friendly,
I decided to paint him as the 5th entry in the 30 days challenge.

Dragonfly in Amber Leaves

Dreaming Nature: Dragonfly in amber leaves.
First in a series for Leslie Saeta's
Thirty paintings in thirty days challenge.

The theme I have chosen "Dreaming Nature" was inspired
by a saying of Paul Gaugin
"Seek art in nature by dreaming in the presence of it."
The challenge  to use one theme for thirty painting
is daunting to say the least.
I hope it will evolve as the month goes by,
so that the paintings don't get stale.
We shall see!
